Surrender To Divine Inspiration

What does it mean to be in the process?

What does it mean to surrender yourself to the universe?

It seems we are in an era of spirituality. I have witnessed the evolution of people from being religious to exploring the difference between religion and spirituality. I myself was, and still am, in the process. At the same time, I can observe everything from a higher perspective, as if from a different dimension. The change is quite significant and is prominently reflected in conversations with people around the world or with friends and acquaintances. Religion can be a mechanism to achieve spiritual goals or a tool to reach a higher consciousness, but once you are in the process, all the rituals and tools blur away. You no longer need materialistic support to understand or connect with a higher authority. Some people may have a different view on this, but I have learned about spirituality and experienced the higher power through my art and being in the process. Art is something I breathe, eat, feel, and think about unceasingly, either knowingly or unknowingly. I believe everyone in the world is in the process, but those who follow a passion—whether they are artists, singers, actors, musicians, entrepreneurs, or scientists—have a different understanding of the world. They realize that they are in the process and work toward an unknown goal. In the process, they surrender themselves to their purpose and reach a meditative state that becomes a transcendent experience for them.

Though everyone is in the process, only some can realize it, and only a few can implement it in their lives, which is extremely difficult for a layman. That is why not everyone becomes a saint or reaches supreme consciousness. I believe that artists of any genre are able to experience it through their art. They might not implement the concept of surrendering, in their lives, but at least they can experience it through their process of creating

My mother's golden words have been etched in my memory since I have started painting and chosen visual art as a career, are: "Sadhana (practice) is what is important; the rest will be taken care of. Do the Sadhana without thinking about the end results; just be true to your work, and you will see the magic happen." I have kept this thought throughout my art journey. I never focus on the end result once I start a painting but thoroughly enjoying the process of creation. Also I have never planned my career achievements. What I have done is surrendered myself to divine inspiration. The best of my works come from that meditative state where I don’t even remember how it happened. It feels as though, there is a guiding force that keeps you in sync with the absolute power, making you feel one with it. The feeling is so enchanting and surreal that I believe everyone deserves to experience that mystical moment. It will come only when you surrender yourself to your work and trust the process.

  1. Well written Shrutika, Art is a journey, It should be a process of 'Koham' (Who am I?) to 'Soham' (I am That), a process of discovering oneself.

  2. Nicely written Shrutika as you have chosen a complex subject to talk about and you have expressed yourself very well. Keep it up!
